The Washington's Birthday Celebration is an almost month long held event that celebrates George Washington's Birthday. It was founded in 1898, and is the largest celebration of its kind in the United States with approximately 400,000 attendees annually. The celebration includes parades, a carnival, an air show, fireworks, live concerts and a city-wide prom during which many of Laredo's elite dress very nicely. One of its main events, the Jalapeño Festival, has recently been named one of the United States' top 10 eating festivals due to its Jalapeno Eating Contest.

Lake Casa Blanca is a reservoir on Chacon Creek 5 miles northeast of downtown Laredo, Texas. Lake Casa Blanca has been stocked with species of fish intended to improve the utility of the reservoir for recreational fishing. Fish present in Lake Cas Blanca include carp, hybrid striped bass, catfish, and largemouth bass. Recreational uses of the park include cooking out, camping, picnicking, lake swimming, skiing boating, mountain biking, and the most popular recreational use of the lake is fishing. Boat ramps are available throughout the lake. Lake Casa Blanca also supplies water for the Casa Blanca Golf Course nearby.
